Description

This is a remake of my original Village Guardian piece. [link]

It is a special picture to me, because I think it marks a turning point in my art. Many of the techniques I've been observing and practicing came together well in that piece. :la:
I still really enjoy the composition and concept, but it was looking a little dated next to my recent art, so I thought I would re-draw the picture, using the things I've learned over the last year and a half.

I made it wider, too. ;)
Enjoy!

The only problem I am seeing with this one is the perspective continuity on the far left building. Huh, maybe it's supposed to be like that. Anywho, the anatomy on the drake is much better and the overall texture quality has improved. The way you changed the trees around makes the village look more like the center of attention as it should be, with a slight dark look that the drake is separating from the village because of it's orientation.

Vision: 4.5
I gave it this because it is an improvement on an old one, so it isn't just about the subject at hand but also the artist's own.

Originality: 4.0
There are lots of dragon featuring art on dA, so it's not the subject, however the setting and theme are more uncommon.

Technique: 4.5
It is hard to improve upon something old than starting something new, especially if you are copying the same art; this is true even if you know what you are doing. So re-doing something in entirety is difficult when only changing a few features and still being able to compensate for the changes

Impact: 4.0
I guess it was meant to be like 'OMFG AWZOME' but more of proving that you can reverse engineer your skills on old stuff, which is very important to letting your art skills evolve, rather than just improving. However, this was a more simpler image in to something complex, which isn't too hard.

Now try improving something else that has far more elements and variables to stretch your abilities to their limit.
