It's just a speedpaint for that daily art challenge. It's a wizard duel of some sort. Makes me want to play some M:tG.
The theme is perspective.
I tried to give it a sort of atmospheric fog, but I think I got carried away. It didn't help that the board ate some of the smaller details when I uploaded the picture.
Reversing green and blue for the land and sky was rather interesting, and I did have fun with the perspective.
The time taken was just under three hours.
You can see how it was drawn here:

The picture is outstanding. It shows nicely the situation of spells and summoned creatures flying everywhere in an intense battle
And secondly:
I saw this and I immediately thought of Magic the Gathering, looks like a mono-green deck VS a mono-black deck.
Then I read your artist's comment and laughed, we had the same thoughts. How long you been playing MtG?
I've been playing MtG for a while. I used to play it in grade school around Mirage, but then I gave all my cards away because I didn't play it much anymore... Then I did a draft tournament in the Kamigawa block, and started making decks again. I started playing more regularly during the recent Shards block. It's a lot of fun.
What sort of decks do you use?
Most of my cards are old though, primarily Mirrodin block.
Before I say what my decks are I'll ask a question, like to try playing via Yahoo Messanger sometime?
Pending that answer I will list my decks and their names, which can hint at their abilities.
Little Minoins, Big Minions, Steel Heart, Shihatu, Lingering Evil, Rebirth, Double Trouble, Flooded, Moveable, Leech, Steamy, Hydukan.
Reason for not answering your question more directly is that if we do play it would kinda spoil the fun to know what there is ahead of time.
It was rather disappointing when I uploaded it. I had a lot more gray and many more details in there that just got merged into black when I uploaded it. I definitely need to do more of these speedpaint things. They are rather helpful, even if they are not as impressive as the pictures I spend a lot of time on.
It's one of the things that I've been trying to work on lately.
Especially on this picture.
These daily challenges are rather neat.
And, yes. I play magic. I'm looking forward to the Worldwake release.
It's a rather fun game. I've almost made fanart of some of the planeswalkers a few times, but my sketches don't turn out well at all. Yet.
