And the third segment! Now, I just have to upload the complete panorama.
I considered using undead, but I wanted something that would fit the dark scene, without coming across as inherently evil like undead tend to do. So, I went with constructs! And a moving fortress.
I stylized and modified a few famous statues to use as golems in this piece. That was also something that I don't do very often, so it was rather fun to try.
Congratulations on finishing it all. This is quite the feat. I'm happy with your decision to have the variety of constructs. There is so much thought with each character. I'm always pleased to see that level of depth in an art piece. The rows of creepy hollow stone faces in the front feels so chilling.
There is much to applaud, and not much to be picky about. Composition works very well over all. Some of the half-hidden lightnings make me a bit annoyed that I can't see their source. The only other thing I can pick out is to keep working on more realistic hands. Not that the ones here are bad at all, but there is perhaps a certain level of realism in the picture where the more cartoon-like hands take away from it. One other thing I just noticed is the hand-held scale... the left scale looks okay but the right one doesn't look like the 3 lines are evenly spaced around the circumference of the circle. It is just a bit geometrically-off. Also, with the viewer being so far down, would we see the top of the scale or the bottom? (the 3 lines partially blocked by the base). Perhaps use a real model to figure out how it should look. I hope that makes sense; the scale seems pretty easy to fix.
Sorry if that ended up being a bit much for a critique... I think that you'd prefer to hear what might need fixing, but it is truly quite the masterpiece, all in all.
Thanks again for the in-depth critique. I always enjoy hearing about things I can fix. Sometimes the issues are things that I can't just quickly resolve, like the hands... I'll need some more practice with those first. But, knowing about things like that helps me learn and improve on future art.
It was fun making adjustments and moving those statues around to get the composition right, but I think some of the adjustments I made contributed to the perspective issues on the scales. I just re-drew those scales, and uploaded the edited version.
I think I prefer the other side, too. It was rather fun drawing all those sorts of things I don't normally draw, though.
The scales look much better. Hands are so tricky.. I've never seriously attempted them so I can only imagine the difficulties in getting them just right. Though these guys aren't exactly human, so they are allowed to have more crudely constructed hands and digits. It kind of works out.
