Daydream Visit by Chromamancer Daydream Visit by Chromamancer
A daydream comes to visit. And it likes fish. :D

The landscape is based on the place where I go for vacation every year. There are a few more docks, and the land structure is a little bit different in real life, though.
I've been going there since I was very young, so I've had plenty of daydreams of my own while doing a bit of fishing.
This year, there was one morning where the water on the lake was so still you could use it as a mirror. It looked incredible.

I had a lot of fun with the fantasy world reflection in this one. It was a difficult picture to work on, because of perspective and focus problems.
I really like how it turned out, though.

Oekaki: 19h 36m
Inkscape: ~30 m
Photoshop Elements: ~2h 30m
All done with a mouse.
Not a speedpaint.

Comments and criticism are always welcome. :)

Thanks.
I tried to contain most of the fantasy elements in the reflection, except for the dragon.
There are a few areas that change, and the house is one of them.

I don't get it. What season is it? There can't be that thickness of snow around with the water not being frozen.

Ah. It was supposed to be a fall setting.
I remember having a tough time with the plants and rocks on this picture, so everything kind of blurs together a bit too much.

This one wasn't as focused as I hoped, though.
The reflections were fun, but some people found them confusing, too.

A lot of people were confused by that reflection. I put a lot of work into this one, though, and I'm rather satisfied with how it turned out.

The dragon is coming out of the reflection in this one. That confused a few people, but I think it was a fun idea to draw. ;)

Wow, this is amazing. I think you're speed paints are great, and when you take your time on them they turn out even better! The only thing that could use improvement is the boy's head, it seems a little oddly shaped. But other than that this piece is amazing, I'd say it's my favorite painting from you so far!

Using a mix of speedpaints and longer pictures seems to be rather helpful. The speedpaints help refine my technique, and the longer pictures are helpful for finding new details to include. Hopefully, I'll be improving much more in the time to come. :)

Also, this took around twice as long as my Commanding From Above picture. Maybe that's an indication of progress, there. ;)

wow Chrom. I love this! from the awesome reflection with the pretty sky and castle, to the lil blue fireflies!
Good luck on the contest!
one question, is there a reason I see the tail reflected but not outside of the water like with the head?

I didn't do too well in the contest. Didn't even make the semi-finals, or get any place worth mentioning...

Anyway, the dragon is coming out of the reflection, not from under the water. That's what it is supposed to look like, at least.

I tend to re-draw things until they start to look good. It usually works.
Persistence usually wins out in the end. :D

You wrote you had probs with perspectie, I think you did a good job with it. I feel really big depth from this picture, emotions and part of you what you put into it. Its really like dream. All colors creats one big unity. In the reflection of water is really clear (not like water in real) but it makes empressive touch of eternal universe. It seems to be that you created a new view on world. :) haha i just wrote longer verisons of common ppl´s "I like it" :D

I always appreciate the extra effort in comments. :)

I had to re-draw pieces of it multiple times. I think it took me 3 tries on the dock, for instance.
The persistence paid off in the end, though. I'm rather satisfied with the final picture.
I'm glad to hear you think it turned out well in the end. :D

Great concept, beautifully drawn ^^
Though, I'd be tempted to colour a few more objects with the same blue from the fireflies - at the moment they don't quite look like they belong (I'm not sure if that makes sense!)
But still, this is awesome :)

I had much more light coming form them at one stage in the picture, but it either ended up distracting, or changed the mood significantly.
So, I did tone it down in the end. But, I may have made it a bit too faint now.

Ideally, the lighting should probably have ended up somewhere in the middle. Brighter than it currently is, but not bright enough to be distracting.

This is a beautiful picture!!

One thing does bother me, the reflection of the building being different - It is part of the concept, but there aren't many other changes in the reflection that make this 100% clear.

Apart from that little technical thing that bugs probably just me...it's an awesome picture with great colour scheme ...and of course fantastic reflections :D

I had a lot of fun with the color scheme, and that reflection concept.

If it wasn't in the dreams contest, I'd probably keep fussing with it to try and work out those little bugs. I originally had many more differences, but I really cluttered up the picture, so it actually looks better now that I removed those. It really does.

Using detail effectively, and in a way that draws attention to the focus of the picture is something that I need a bit of practice on.

It's based off of the place where I go on vacation. I changed some things, for better composition, of course.
But, I have seen very still water like that, there. I usually do plenty of fishing. It's rather relaxing.

Doesn't exactly have the colors or dragons coming out of the reflection like that, though. ;)
