Artist's Comments

This is a digital retouch made from the real media charcoal piece I finished a few days ago. [link]

Adding a bit more color than the orange paper was a lot of fun. I tried to smooth out areas that needed smoothing, while retaining a bit of texture from the paper.
I added a bit more precision and detail to the piece, in many areas. I'm still happy with the original piece. It looks quite nice. I think I was able to successfully improve upon it in this retouch, though. :)

Comments and criticism are always welcome.

*minor edit*
Strengthened anatomy of the dragon's back a bit, and added a bit more detail to the sky.

It looks really awesome...I wonder though, where did you find your inspiration for this fantasy piece?
:iconchromamancer:
Hmm... This one was sort of one that I built up piece by piece.
I had some charcoal, a white conte crayon, and some orange paper. So, the orange paper gave me the idea to make the sunset.
I got the pose of the dragon with a little sketching. The rocks were added next, to sort of frame the scene. It looked a little lonely, though. Instead of leaving it like that, I added the human in there. :)

That's the basic process I followed when drawing this one. Most of my art is digital, so after I finished, I thought I'd take a shot at retouching it, and adding a bit more color and lighting. :)

The first one was lovely, but this one seems to have taken it even further! The vibrancy of the color in the sky is beautiful, as well as the transition between orange-white and cranberry-red.
The flag definitely looks less like a wind-sock and more like a banner, now. Nicely done with that.
I love what you did with the detail on the dragon. He looks so shiny. ^^
I never noticed this in the original picture, but the little man looks really short. the first think i think when i look at it, is "Dwarf", but the longer i look at it, the less sure i am. Is it a full sized man, sitting, crouched, kneeling? Or is it just a trick of the eye, and he is in fact a regular sized man standing, and it's just the cloak that makes him look short and stout?
Anyway, i think my favorite part of this retouch is all the glowing sunlit highlights on the dragon, and on the mountain.

Many thanks. :)
I think I drew the line for the bottom of his cloak a bit too high when doing the retouch. I just uploaded a minor edit fixing that, though. :)

Adding those highlights was a lot of fun.

I love it more then ever the bold colors make it look alot more like a real sunset

Wow! JUST WOW! :O
You got the texture on the wings looking absolutely real! The scales look fantastic! and...wow the background! There's just sooo much feeling in the colors you had on there. The colors changing into lightness/darkness really works!
:iconchromamancer:
Thanks.
The colors were fun to play around with. :)
